Audition form

IMPORTANT: If you sent an audition form via our Web site before Tuesday, August 16, it was not received, because of technical difficulties. Please send another form, and please excuse the inconvenience!

AUDITIONS

Auditions for new members will be held on Mondays, September 5 and 12, by appointment only. (Auditions may also be scheduled in January, as needed.) Key qualifications include good sight-reading ability, accurate pitch, and the ability to blend well with other voices.

Acceptance is based on audition performance and the number of spaces available in each voice section, as determined by the conductor. Members are not required to re-audition each year except at the conductor’s discretion.

To schedule an audition, complete and submit the audition form.

REHEARSALS

The Choral Society rehearses on Monday evenings during the concert season (September to May), from 7:30 to 9:45, at the Durham Arts Council Building. Click here to see the 2011–12 rehearsal schedule.

Members must meet attandance requirements and abide by Choral Society ground rules. They also are expected to practice outside of rehearsals as necessary to be well prepared for rehearsals and concerts.

Members who miss excessive numbers of rehearsals are not allowed to sing in concerts. Also, the conductor reserves the right to require any singer to demonstrate his or her preparedness to sing in a given concert.

In addition, members are expected to pay for their music, provide a black music folder, and provide appropriate concert dress (see below). Financial aid for dues and music is available in cases of hardship.
