We are a choir based in Durham, NC, that has been committed to building and celebrating community through choral music for over 70 years.
- To unite singers and audiences in the joy of high-quality performance of time-honored choral masterworks and an ever-broadening range of excellent repertoire from many traditions.
- To strengthen our community by engaging with the rich diversity of its people and building transformative connections as a force for unity.
Our 2022-2023 concert season offers listeners a chance to engage both with newer or less familiar music and with some time-honored classics, in locations that are new for us as well as traditional sites where we’ve performed many times. Similarly, our musical partners this season include not only some with whom we’ll be performing for the first time but also some frequent collaborators. In addition to our concerts, we will continue to offer sing-alongs this season – 3 virtual events plus an in-person Messiah sing-along.
Handbells and brass instruments will join with the Choral Society in December to create Sounds of the Season, with joyous holiday works. The choir from North Carolina Central University will once again join forces with our Chamber Choir in a pair of February concerts, continuing a deeply meaningful tradition initiated in 2020. In March we will be joined by singers from Riverside High School and the Durham Children’s Choir in significant works by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm and Cecilia McDowall. And our season closes with Bach’s monumental Mass in B minor.
