Accessibility

The Choral Society of Durham is committed to providing access to our performances and events to people of all ages, familiarity with choral music, ability to pay, and physical abilities.
We rehearse and perform in physically accessible spaces (see details below). There are always ground-level entry, ramped access, and/or elevators to the venue, wheelchair seating, wheelchair-accessible restrooms, and wheelchair-accessible box office. Venues offer designated accessible parking spots with route to the venue entrance.
For those with vision impairments, digital copies of our programs, which can be magnified, are available upon request. If you are a singer and require Braille versions of the music for each semester, let us know and we will order it. Printed programs include the text of most of the pieces we perform.
Relevant details on performance venues will be updated as we approach each performance. For further information, please contact our Accessibility Coordinator at deichair@choral-society.org.
DUKE CHAPEL
401 Chapel Drive
Durham, NC 27708
Venue
Duke Chapel is composed of a single seating area. There are several entrances to the Duke Chapel, however, most of them, including the main entry, require the use of stairs. A wheelchair-accessible entrance is available at the rear of the Duke Chapel on the north side of the building.
Wheelchair-accessible seating in Duke Chapel can vary depending on the size of the ensemble performing. It is usually located near the front of the seating area in the north (right) transept. An usher will often be at the accessible entrance to greet guests with accessibility needs and assist them with finding a seat.
Guests can elect to transfer to a chair or church pew if available or use their wheelchair as a seat in designated areas.
All seating in the Duke Chapel is on wooden chairs or pews. Many guests choose to bring a small cushion or pillow for comfort.
We recommend arriving early for Duke Chapel events as the accessible seating area does tend to fill up.
Restrooms with accessible features are located in the Divinity School adjacent to the Duke Chapel. Please note that restrooms in the Bryan Center are accessible from the Duke Chapel Quad via stairs or a sloped path.
Parking
Accessible parking is available either in the Bryan Center Parking Deck (PG IV), located at 125 Science Drive, or in the Bryan Center parking lot adjacent to the parking deck. A special event parking fee of $5 will be charged by Duke Parking Attendants upon entry to either location. Please ask the parking attendant to direct you to the closest open accessible parking spot. Guests may be dropped off at the Bryan Center parking circle, as well, and the drop-off car can then park wherever the parking attendant indicated they should park.
For guests being dropped off by taxi or other vehicle that does not intend to park, the Chapel Drive bus circle may also be used as a drop-off point. Please note that there is little or no parking available at this location, and that there are stairs between Chapel Drive and the entrance to Duke Chapel, with an accessible ramp to the far right of the quad as you face the Chapel.
Once you are parked, a slightly sloped accessible pathway leads from the parking area
to the accessible entrance to Duke Chapel. Click here for a detailed map of this pathway.
