Our donors make our performances possible
Because of you, CSD is able to sing!
In 2024-2025 the Choral Society of Durham performed 12 concerts – 10 of which were free - in 11 different venues, featuring composers from a variety of traditions. Free concerts included our annual Messiah sing-along, a jazz concert, and a Chamber Choir concert, among others. We love non-traditional spaces, and these included a Durham Bulls game, Carolina Meadows, and Pettigrew Rehabilitation Center. We filled Duke Chapel in December, and Baldwin Auditorium in May, following which we hosted the second annual Durham Community Sing, featuring 380 singers from eight other local choral groups and members of the community who wanted to join us, performing for over 100 audience members in another free concert.
All of these aligned with our goal to share beautiful, meaningful choral music and to spread the joy of choral music beyond traditional concert settings.
Thank you for all you did during this past year in support of the Choral Society of Durham. Because of you, we were able to sing!
2025-2026: Another year of innovation
We have an exciting season planned, starting July 1. Our annual Summer Sing provided the chance for any singer, whether a member of CSD or not, to sing samples of most of our planned program for the entire year. We sang selections from Vivaldi’s Magnificat, some Buxtehude, and a piece by 19th century Brazilian composer Nunes Garcia. We are very excited about our February concert of the Misa Tango (Tango Mass) by Martín Palmeri, which will feature a tango ensemble! And, to close the season, Verdi’s stirring Requiem, followed by the 3rd annual Durham Community Sing.
Woven through all we do: The Community Collaboration Fund
The Community Collaboration Fund is an endowment from which we draw, and to which donors may contribute, each year. Our CCF allows us to bring diverse works to diverse audiences in diverse venues, and to collaborate with other local arts organizations who may have fewer resources. For instance, in 2024-2025, we worked with the Riverside Rapids from Durham’s Riverside High School, and Mallarmé Players, not to mention eight other area choruses who participated in the second annual Durham Community Sing.

Your donation to the CCF will help ensure us a bright, collaborative future! The proceeds from this endowment will fund specific projects each year to aid CSD’s community-building mission:
To strengthen our community by engaging with the rich diversity of its people and building transformative connections as a force for unity
